Fantasy Week 1: Wide receiver questions

Every week in fantasy football, there are three types of players when it comes to lineups:

The no-brainers, the definitely-nots and the question marks.

Throwing the definitely-nots immediately out of the equation, I will now separate no-brainers from the question marks:

Toughest decisions in Week 1

Miles Austin, Cowboys, at Giants, or Hakeem Nicks, Giants, vs. Cowboys. It truly is decision time on this one as it kicks off the season on Wednesday night. My rule of thumb is: If I guy came out of the preseason with a hamstring injury, let’s see him on the field before putting him in our lineup. Thus, sit Austin, play Nicks.

Mike Wallace, Steelers, at Broncos, or Antonio Brown, Steelers, at Broncos? Actually, this isn’t a tough question at all. It’s clear Brown enters the season at the Steelers’ No. 1 receiver, while Wallace suits up as an unwanted distraction. The answer this week, and probably every week, is Brown.

Stevie Johnson, Bills, at Jets, or Torrey Smith, Ravens, vs. Bengals. Neither has an ideal matchup here, but one is far better than the other. Beware: When you’ve got a guy going up against Darrelle Revis, sit him. Meanwhile, Smith could be primed for a big season.

Randy Moss, 49ers, at Packers, or Santana Moss, Redskins, at Saints? Randy Moss is one of the biggest unknowns in the entire NFL as the season kicks off. Does he have anything left? Does he have a lot left? We’ll certainly learn a lot in the first game. While we learn, you’d be a lot better off sticking with Santana Moss, who figures to benefit from a high-scoring affair in New Orleans.

Kenny Britt, Titans, vs. Patriots, or Laurent Robinson, Jaguars, at Vikings. Both are potentially good matchups, but one problem here: Britt is suspended one game and won’t face the Pats. If he were playing, this truly would have been a tough choice because I like them both. If you drafted Robinson, this is one time he definitely belongs in the lineup.

Sleeper pick of the week: Malcolm Floyd, Chargers, at Raiders. There’s nothing better than saving one player for the final game of the week in case you need to make up a deficit. With the Raiders having blown up their secondary and Vincent Brown out of action for the Chargers, this should be an enjoyable night for those with Floyd in the lineup.

Others I kinda like: Demaryius Thomas, Broncos, vs. Steelers; Julio Jones, Falcons, at Chiefs; Nate Burleson, Lions, vs. Rams; Jordy Nelson, Packers, vs. 49ers; Lance Moore, Saints, vs. Redskins; Brandon Lloyd, Patriots, at Titans; Reggie Wayne, Colts, at Bears.

Not this week: A.J. Green, Bengals, at Ravens; Jeremy Maclin, Eagles, at Browns; Sidney Rice, Seahawks, at Cardinals; Brian Quick, Rams, at Lions; Justin Blackmon, Jaguars, at Vikings; Antonio Bryant, Cowboys, at Giants; Denarius Moore, Raiders, vs. Chargers.

I’m starting DeSean and Burleson but I can’t decide between Boldin and Rice for my 3rd WR. Britt is suspended and D. Moore just hit the waiver wire. Who is the best option this week.
